Smoking and use of tobacco can cause dental problems like gum disease and tooth decay. However, the biggest drawback of smoking is that it is misrepresents the situation of your mouth. Yes, smoking tends to disguise the damage happening to your teeth and gums. Where the gums of an infected patient should be red, puffy and bleed easily, those of a smoker are pale and thin and do not bleed readily. This masking turns out to be fatal for the smoker’s oral health because by the time dental problems are diagnosed, it’s often too late.
  • Smoking and health treatments:
Though you may not realise it, smoking changes the whole environment of the mouth. It decreases saliva flow which increases the risk of gum disease, erosion and decay. It also makes dental treatments less likely to succeed. So if you are undergoing some kind of dental procedure, it’s best to abstain from smoking till your teeth/gums and healed.
  • Smoking and gum disease:
Patients who smoke are more likely to produce bacterial plaque, which leads to gum diseases. Smoking can also lead to an increase in dental plaque and facilitates gum diseases to progress more rapidly, in comparison to non-smokers.
  • Smoking and teeth staining:
Tobacco staining on the teeth looks ugly and gives smokers a shabby appearance. Unfortunately, as the years pass by, the staining tends to spread into microscopic cracks in the enamel and becomes impossible to remove even with whitening agents. So, the teeth of smokers become permanently stained.
  • Smoking and oral cancer:
Besides the damage to teeth and gums that smoking can cause, it can easily lead to oral cancer. This type of cancer tends to spread faster than all other forms.
Therefore, if you smoke and fail to pay good attention to oral care, you might wind up in a bit of trouble. Needless to say, it’s always best to quit the habit. It’s also a good idea to brush your teeth, twice a day with India's best toothpasteMeswak to stay away from all dental problems. Ideally, smoking & obacco should be avoided. Maintain proper oral hygiene and choose the right toothpaste to keep all dental problems away & ensure proper dental care.
